Witney based Children’s Cancer Charity Joss Searchlight was set up by Dianne & Nigel Parkes after the sad death of their son Joss in January 2011. As founding trustees Joss’ parents are passionate about making a difference to families affected by their child’s cancer diagnosis. “We want to support parents through their childs illness. We can guide them through the maze of treatment options or simply hold a hand when the going gets tough. There will be dizzy heights of hope and dark depths of despair, as parents of a of a child with cancer we understand this”. Joss Searchlight has been formed to help other parents who have been forced down the road of childhood cancer. We provide a co-ordinated emotional and practical support for families of children with cancer, advice, counselling, provide specialist equipment, respite care and of course we help out with thoses special treats.
St. Mary’s Church, Witney are engaged in a £2million restoration and renewal project, Inspiring Change. There are a number of people exploring vocation. The church building hosts many outreach programmes and events, including an annualFood Festival; an annual Beer Festival; a conference for the Society of Catholic Priests on the Hospitality of God and Diocesan Mission Conferences. During the last year over 50,000 people have come through our doors and been welcomed.
We are committed to mission and outreach as a vital part of our life together. We pray that the church will grow and flourish as communities of Christ have done through the centuries. With the confidence of our patron, the young woman of Nazareth, we try to capture a vision which, like God, is ‘rich in mercy’.
